The Milky Way over milky water in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
How did I create this image?
It started with some planning earlier in the day. I was scouting new locations for my upcoming photo workshop and came across this scene. Using the Sky Guide app I figured out exactly what time I needed to come back to get the Milky Way rising above the water.

Later that night I brought one of my students out here who hired me for a private session. It was a little spooky out there in the darkness with the loud roar of the water which would make it difficult to hear any animals approaching. But we were well prepared with bear spray out & ready and I scanned the area often with my headlamp between shots.
In order to have optimum detail & little noise, I took 10 shots to then stack & blend in Starry Landscape Stacker which does a great job knocking down the noise in high ISO shots. It was shot at ISO 8000 at f2.8 for 20s with my Sony a7R3 & Tamron 15-35mm lens.
I changed my exposure to 2 minutes for the foreground shot to get the detail in the water & trees. The Tetons doesn’t allow low level lighting at night anymore, but increasing the length of my exposure worked just fine. I shot 7 photos to then stack in SLS for noise control.
Images were first sorted using Mylio then RAW files were sent to Capture One Pro. Next I ran the sky images through SLS and then did the same to the foreground shots. I used both Photoshop & ON1 to mask & blend the foreground shot with the sky. Both PS & Luminar were used to finalize the look.
